Residents of Santa Cruz and the Scotts Valley area will have the opportunity to learn – or brush up on – their dance moves with the opening of an Arthur Murray Dance Studio on Mount Hermon Road.
The 3,000 square foot studio was recently renovated with paint, new flooring and new furniture, according to Richard Myers who along with his wife (and dance partner) Marianne Myers rented the space. It was originally two different structures, but they connected them to expand the dance studio.
Myers says he and his wife, who also own a second Arthur Murray franchise in Fremont, spent their adult lives in the world of ballroom dancing.
“We have competed in the American Smooth and American Rhythm categories over our professional careers,” they said.
The awards included the “Rising Star Champions” in the Arthur Murray dance, and they were also selected as “Open” finalists.
Since launching the Scotts Valley site last December, Myers says they’ve offered private lessons, group lessons, and what he calls “workout nights.” For couple dancing, they have salsa, swing, Latin (including tango and bachata) and ballroom lessons.
“To entice potential students to see who we are and what we do, we’re offering the first lesson for free,” says Myers. “It gives us the chance to get to know newcomers and their dance needs.”
They also offer to consult with couples who are getting married, both to help them select their dance music and to prepare them for their first dance as a married couple.
“I’ve always known that Santa Cruz County is great dance country,” says Myers. “Our hope is to be able to share our passion with the community – we just want everyone to have a good time.”
