Dance studio launches Fiesta-themed arts festival

SAN ANTONIO- Jewel of Art Dance Studio is gearing up for the launch of its first annual community festival, Jewel Fest, to be held on Moon Saturday at 7 p.m.

Dance students look forward to being joined by a variety of local artists and performers for a Fiesta-themed experience on the grounds in front of the Woodlawn Theatre. The studio’s founder and director, Jackleen Rios, admits she almost gave up on her dreams after several rejections during auditions for professional dance projects.

“I even changed majors (university),” she said. “I just didn’t feel like myself until I got back to it. Dancing is who I am, and I’ve been doing it since I was 4 years old.

Now a successful businesswoman, choreographer and performer, Rios is dedicated to her community and her dancing children.

“When I look at my students, I see potential, I see brilliance, I see value, and I see purity,” she said. “Jewel of Art Dance Studio is meant to create polished and brilliant dancers so they can shine both on and off stage.”

Jewel Fest will feature special performances by Rios students and staff, including numbers from The Jackson Five and, of course, Selena.

Rios said she considers it a privilege to use her dream to fulfill the dreams of children who yearn to impact the world through dance. She looks forward to providing exposure to her students each year through Jewel Fest, allowing them to gain confidence as performers.

“These kids mean everything to me,” she said. “If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

As coal undergoes the painful transformation to become a diamond, Rios discovered the gem of art through the toughest challenges of his life. For more information on Jewel of Art Dance Studio and its events, Click here.
