Deadmau5 Grammy Performance Upgrades Dance Genre, Jabs To Skrillex [Twitter]

Rivalry was rampant at the Grammy Awards on Sunday when electronic bands Deadmau5 and Skrillex faced off for Best Dance Recording and Best Dance / Electronic Album. Skrillex came out on top, but Deadmau5 has always made his mark.

On the red carpet, Deadmau5 wore a shirt with Skrillex’s personal phone number on it and the phrase U mad bro? below.

But the electronic DJ was remembered for more than his puns at this weekend’s awards show. Deadmau5 has performed with music industry veterans of various genres, such as The Foo Fighters, Lil ‘Wayne, Chris Brown, and DJ David Guetta. In the past, pop artists such as Britney Spears and Lady Gaga have won the dance categories award. Guetta was nominated for Best Electronic / Dance Album at the 52nd Grammy Awards in 2010, but lost to Lady Gaga’s The Fame.

However, this is the first time that electro-heavy dance DJs have been overdone to the point of rivalry.

The Grammys would have been remiss not to put the faces and sound of dance music, recently defined by powerful floor four beats, sultry vocals and spooky digital editing tricks at the center of this year’s ceremony, The Los Angeles Times wrote of the dance genre’s presence at this year’s awards show.

And according to Twitter, fans were happy with the collaborative performance.

Watch the Grammys performance. I REALLY loved the Foo Fighters / Deadmau5 collaboration, one fan tweeted.

The best part of the Grammys last night was seeing Dave Grohl heading to the set of Deadmau5, reading another article.

Despite the playful farce, Deadmau5 appeared to be a good sport on the outcome of the awards show, tweeting congratulatory messages.

And @skrillex cleans the mau5. 😉 I wouldn’t let anyone else do it. Well, I have a great gift bag! 🙂
