Lompoc’s Garcia Dance Studio Celebrates 25th Anniversary With Weekend Performances | Local News

Local dance troupe Garcia Dance Studio celebrates 25 years in the Lompoc Valley with weekend performances that include a stop at the 69th edition flower festival Sunday afternoon.

Despite two challenging years defined by the pandemic, Garcia Dance Studio owner and operator Laura Garcia said she was proud to announce 25 years of free family entertainment for thousands of Central Coast residents.

Garcia started her small dance studio at Vandenberg Air Force Base in 1997 out of a love of dancing and after winning the coveted title of Santa Barbara’s Old Spanish Days Spirit of Fiesta in 1986.

Over the years, Garcia Studio has welcomed and trained hundreds of dancers of all ages – from childhood to adulthood – and introduced them to the joy of the performing arts.

The performing arts, she said, provide dancers with physical and mental well-being, a positive outlet for self-expression and increased self-confidence as performers learn to “present themselves in a dignified and professional”.

Garcia, 52, said she was proud that the studio had facilitated countless hours of community volunteering to support local and global humanitarian causes, including homelessness, elder care, violence prevention Domestic, Relay For Life and Special Olympics.

“The best feeling you can have is playing for others and seeing the expressions of happiness on their faces as you watch,” she said.

Garcia can often be seen dancing alongside her daughter Marissa, winner of the Junior Spirit of Fiesta in 2003, and her 6-year-old granddaughter, Camila.

Garcia Dance Studio is scheduled to perform two sold-out performances at the Lompoc Civic Theater on Saturday and from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Sunday at the Lompoc Flower Festival in Ryon Park.
