“Dance changes everything… the body, the brain and the being.”
This is the motto of the Pamela Trokanski Dance Workshop, named “Best Dance Studio” for five years.
“We believe in the dancer in every person and that movement is an act of life, whether you’re a 3-year-old, a dancer in the 90s, or somewhere in between,” says Trokanski, who teaches dance at Davis since 1984.
PTDW moved to its current location in Mace Ranch in 2002 and currently offers everything from ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, tap and hip-hop to Pilates, belly dancing and dance for people with Parkinson’s disease. Additionally, artist Analisa Bevin teaches Zentangle lessons in the multipurpose facility.
Classes are available for all ages and skill levels, with performance opportunities for those who want them or continuing education for those who just love coming to class. Complementing the diverse range of classes offered each week, the Dance Workshop also hosts week-long dance and arts camps, as well as other community outreach events such as hosting multiple Second Fridays during the year.
A strong faculty of teachers offers a diverse range of training to students. Trokanski herself holds a teaching degree and has taught dance at Davis High School, in addition to directing the Pamela Trokanski Dance Theater, a non-profit contemporary dance company, for 37 years.
“Thank you to everyone who voted for PTDW,” Trokanski said. “To everyone who has danced with us and their families, past and present… know how grateful I am that you took the time to vote! Also, to all of my wonderful teachers and staff who have helped make PTDW what it is for over three decades, my sincere thanks!
